We are pleased to present the first album of gralla and organ music, an unusual combination which we ensure that will surprise you, not only in its sound power, but also in its huge versatility and wealth of shades. The union of both musical instruments comes from the will to explore, with imagination, ambition and rigour new paths for this formation in order to consolidate our own musical repertoire. This formation is inspired by the roots and the tradition of both instruments: the gralla, a musical instrument that is the main figure in the festive and street music and is nurtured by the popular tradition, faces a new technical and interpretative challenge beside the organ. The organ, which is linked to the learned and liturgical tradition, encouraged by the gralla shows its most popular side..
As our new album “Cornucòpia” means the horn of plenty, we have tried to offer a repertoire of outstanding sources and varied styles: pieces of popular melodies and new compositions; adaptations of compositions for similar instruments or requests for current composers, from contemporary music to jazz, traditional music or cobla bands. We started this project in 2010 and since then we have offered concerts all around Catalonia: the cathedrals of Barcelona and Tarragona, the Festival Tradicionàrius in Santa Maria de Gràcia, the Festival Internacional d’Orgues in Igualada, in the abbeys of Montserrat and El Vendrell, among others, where we have presented most of the compositions of our musical repertoire.
